The French government is focusing on improving the energy efficiency and thermal comfort of homes through MaPrimeRénov’, a financial aid scheme dedicated to energy renovation work. In 2024, this incentive will undergo a number of changes to further encourage the decarbonisation of heating and the transition to more environmentally-friendly equipment.

New features for the installation of ceiling fans/air circulators and consideration of summer comfort

As part of MaPrimeRénov’ 2024, the installation of air circulators and ceiling fans will now be taken into account to improve summer comfort in homes. This easy-to-install equipment provides an economical and environmentally-friendly solution for cooling homes during hot spells. They also help to reduce the need for air conditioning, and therefore overall energy consumption in the home. What’s more, as part of major renovation work, it is now possible to include solar protection devices and photovoltaic panels to improve summer comfort and encourage the production of renewable energy.

Better targeting of needs with the two components of MaPrimeRénov’ 2024

MaPrimeRénov’ is now available in two versions to better tailor assistance to the specific needs of different projects:

  1. MaPrimeRénov’ Decarbonation, which aims to finance the installation of heating and domestic hot water systems that use renewable energy, such as heat pumps or wood-fired boilers.
  2. MaPrimeRénov’ Large-scale renovation, designed to encourage comprehensive renovation work that achieves a minimum improvement of two energy classes on the home’s DPE (Diagnostic de Performance Énergétique) rating. To help households through the process, the Mon Accompagnateur Rénov’ scheme provides trusted third parties to support them throughout the administrative, technical and financial aspects of their renovation project.

Eligibility conditions and tax assistance granted

To qualify for MaPrimeRénov’ aid, the property concerned must be the main residence in mainland France and built at least 15 years ago. The assistance is available to all owner-occupiers and landlords, regardless of income. However, the amount of financial assistance is capped and may not exceed certain limits. In addition to the assistance provided by MaPrimeRénov’, households can also be supported by the Mon Accompagnateur Rénov’ scheme. This assistance service can be paid at 100% for households on very low incomes, up to a maximum eligible expenditure of €2,000 including tax.

Eligible work and amounts granted

To be eligible for MaPrimeRénov’, the work undertaken must significantly improve the energy efficiency of the home. This includes the installation of air/water or geothermal heat pumps and heating systems that use low-carbon energy sources. As part of a major renovation, at least two of the following thermal insulation measures must also be carried out: wall insulation (internal or external), roof or loft insulation, replacement of single-glazed windows, solar protection on glazed surfaces, etc.

MaPrimeRénov’ 2024 aims to make an active contribution to the ecological transition and to improving thermal comfort in France by providing financial support for energy renovation work and the installation of devices such as air circulation systems and ceiling fans.

Even in its current form, Ma Prime Renov’ requires a fairly substantial investment in works to activate, so we’re delighted that ceiling fans (with or without blades) are once again being recognised as a simple solution for improving summer and winter comfort for occupants of single-family homes. If we want a real energy transition, we need to rethink energy-guzzling models such as air conditioning and look at simple, environmentally-friendly solutions that deliver results quickly and simply.

The French Ministry for Ecological Transition and Energy Transition has published a press kit on how MaPrimeRénov’2024 works.
